Thank you for your interest in Jeopardy Magazine. We are pleased to consider all previously unpublished works from Western Washington University students, staff, faculty, and alumni.
Our Mission Statement:
Jeopardy Magazine strives to platform work that is reflective of the wonderful community of students, faculty, staff, and alumni belonging to Western Washington University. We are a student-run undergraduate publication firmly grounded in the accessibility, diversity, and inclusivity of content. Our magazine is both a celebration and a preservation of stories, poetry, essays, art, and multimedia projects that provide ample nourishment at the end of every scholastic year. Beyond just our yearly publication, the Jeopardy team hopes to act as a resource on campus. fielding questions of craft and helping writers grow in creative community. The work we receive is a testament to the talent and strength of our campus; a mosaic of pieces to come home to.
The following submission guidelines apply during our application period:
There are two reading deadlines for the 61st edition of Jeopardy. Submitters can provide up to three literary submissions per deadline and up to five art submissions per deadline.
61st Edition Submission Period:
First submission deadline: December 25th, 2024, 11:59 PM
Second (final) submission deadline: March 23th, 2025, 11:59 PM
Literary pieces include, but are not limited to the following:
♦ Prose: Short fiction, creative nonfiction, hybrid works, translations, and excerpts from larger works (double-spaced, up to 3,000 words)
♦ Poetry: A poetry submission can include up to 5 poems, but only one poetry submission is allowed per deadline
♦ Lyrics: A songwriting submission can include one completed song (required) with an accompanying audio recording (not required). Must be labeled with corresponding chords (click here for an example)
♦ Plays and screenplays (up to 25 pages)
♦ Translations of short prose or poetry
♦ Other! Feel free to submit whatever your creativity comes up with.
Please ensure your name does not appear in the submission's file or in the submission file name.
Each submission must be accompanied by a cover letter that includes author's name and works' titles, as well as a short third person author bio, and the author's connection to Western Washington University.
Simultaneous submissions are allowed. Please notify us immediately if a piece is accepted for publication elsewhere. If one or more poems from a group is accepted elsewhere, please add a note to your submission indicating which.
Art pieces include, but are not limited to the following:
♦ Fine art
♦ Photography
♦ Industrial design
♦ Graphic design
*Other forms of multi-media will also be considered
