Tesla Kawakami is a Washington born oil painter who, during their time at Western Washington University, has been awarded several merit based scholarships and grants and will graduate from the honors college in 2023 with a BA, BFA, with minors in creative writing and illustration. 

Their art is regional to the Pacific Northwest and deals with climate change, apocalypse and the angst of growing up. They use observational color and oil painting to hide and reveal electric acrylic underpaintings and patterned photo transfer backgrounds.

Tesla currently lives in Bellingham with their cat and roommates who are frequent subjects in their paintings. They enjoy collecting photo ID’s and cat whiskers. They love bird murmurations, embellished outfits, and really sharp pencils; and dislike wet hair, hangnails, and rocks in boots that are hard to take off.
