The work of Amanda Kartes explores the complex relationship between traumatic childhood experiences and loss of innocence pervade large-scale drawings and installations. Claustrophobic composition and exaggerated landscape are used to convey an uncanny, dream-like world. She searches for the severity of emotion that one would feel as a child before repetition of negative experiences creates less of a dramatic response, creating an environment that invokes the memory of experiencing pain, loss and discomfort for the very first time.
