Evergreen

POETRY

Njombe, Tanzania

sunflower bursts endure
no winter
wither under
eucalyptus fragrant
soil poison
throat medicine
crow homes
alive with cackling
numb
subtlety of form
wooden bones below
resewn
beehive box
fruit crate
child coffin
bourn on mourning shoulders
last red petal
in the valley
given
to winter wind
still

warm mornings
glistening dreams persist
green leaves breathe steam
hot afterbirth of dawn
spills
over jeweled meadow
