Submission Guidelines Checklist

In a large manila envelope, please enclose:

  1. Simple cover letter explaining your affiliation with WWU. Also include contact information with your local and your permanent address! Please list the titles of the submissions you have enclosed, noting how you would like each to be identified (prose, poetry, prose poem, song lyrics etc.).

  2. Two printed copies of each written submission, removing your name from the manuscripts.

  3. Word document copies of your submission and biography on a CD.

  4. A self-addressed, stamped envelope for reply.

  5. Submit visual art and written work separately. Each set of submissions should include a cover letter containing the information requested above and should be enclosed in a separate envelope.

  6. Each Submission on a separate page.

Or you may hand deliver it to our office in the Humanities Building, room 254.

No manuscripts will be returned.

Any person affiliated with the Western community is encouraged to submit their work. This includes students, staff, faculty and alumni.

There are two submission periods per academic year. The current deadline is posted on our home page. You may submit up to EIGHT TOTAL SUBMISSIONS per submission period. All submissions will be considered for both the webzine and the print magazine.

Final Decisions are made in April. You will not be informed of the status of your piece until then.

Fiction, Drama, Creative Nonfiction, Scripts, Prose, etc: 5000 words or less per piece, double-spaced, stapled, page numbers, and typed in12-point font.

Poetry: 6 pages or less per piece, typed in 12-point Times/Times New Roman font.

Lyrics: 6 pages or less per piece, include the word [lyrics] in brackets at the top of the piece, if possible, in clude sheet music.

Visual Art, Photography, Graphic Novels, Comics, etc: color or black & white, must be submitted on disc (CD, DVD etc.) and your name must be written on the disc. Be sure the electronic file is in a print-quality and high resolution format and include the titles of the pieces in the file names.
